Biography
Mauro de Almeida was the alleged writer of most of the lyrics for "Pelo Telefone" (the controversial first-recorded samba). Later, he published a letter in the Carioca press, declaring that he only adjusted to the music verses of public domain. He wrote several plays, like +Presidente Antes de Nascer, +Adeus, Não lhe Pague, +Amor E Modas, +Viúva Da Alegria, +Com A Corda No Pescoço, +Desarvorada Do Amor, +Do Cruzeiro ao Cruzeiro, +Cozinheira Granfina, +Decadência, +Sempre Chorada, +No País Dos Níqueis, some of them in partnership with Luís Rocha and Cardoso de Meneses.
