Biography
Orange County, CA's Manic Hispanic is a just-for-fun side project consisting of members from such '90s punk outfits as Cadillac Tramps, the Adolescents, and the Grabbers that got together on the advice of their probation officer to keep the guys out of jail. The band issued two albums -- 1992's Menudo Incident (later reissued by BYO) and 2001's The Recline of Mexican Civilization -- consisting of rough-and-ready covers of such acclaimed punk acts as Black Flag, X, the Stooges, the Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, and the Descendents (among others). The group's versions, however, feature newly added/comical lyrics, for example X's White Girl is titled Brown Girl and the Offspring's Come Out and Play (Keep Them Separated) is redone as Get Them Immigrated. On May 5, 2003 (Cinco de Mayo, of course), the band returned with Mijo Goes to Jr. College, which featured faux-Descendents cover art extending the joke of the album's title. Grupo Sexo appeared two years later. ~ Greg Prato, Rovi
