Jim Goodwin
January 1, 1943 (age 81)
Biography
An excellent classic jazz cornetist based in Portland, OR, Jim Goodwin deserves much more recognition. Raised in Seattle, he learned jazz on piano and cornet, assisted by his father, drummer Bob Goodwin. He moved to San Francisco in 1969 and often worked with pianist Ray Skjelbred. The cornetist then spent a period in Europe before settling in Portland. Jim Goodwin has recorded an album apiece as a leader for Berkeley Rhythm (1971-1977) and Rhythm Masters (1987-1988), along with a very enjoyable 1993 Arbors duet CD with pianist Dave Frishberg. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi
