In 2013, Im auditioned for The X Factor Australia and progressed though the series with Kylie Minogue as her mentor. During her time on the show, she gave many notable performances, including covers of "One" by U2 and Prince's "Purple Rain. Im capitalized on her success in the show by becoming the first winner to achieve a number one single followed by a number one album -- her self-titled debut. She made a shift in direction with her second record, 2014's Heart Beats. Whereas Dami Im was an album of covers that had featured in her X Factor performances, Heart Beats was composed of original songs. In 2016, Im was chosen to represent Australia in the Eurovision Song Contest. She sang "Sound of Silence," and the performance made her the first Australian contestant to reach the semi-finals, as well as the first to achieve a record-breaking score of 320. It was the highest score an Australian representative had ever received.
In the same year, Im released her third studio album. The record marked a return to the covers format, as she sang versions of Carpenters songs. ~ Bekki Bemrose, Rovi
