Some of the great church's best songs were penned by Philip Britton, whose brother, Joel Britton, is the church organist. Under Philip Britton's leadership, the Greater St. Stephens Mass Choir has become nationally recognized, winning many awards, including the Stellar Award for Best Mass Choir in the land.
Britton's heartfelt invitational hymn, We Offer Christ, became a national gospel hit, as well as the title cut of a CD recorded by the Greater St. Stephens Mass Choir. Other songs from Britton's pen include Since I Found the Lord, heard on Bishop Paul S. Morton's Crescent City Fire (1999); Break Through on Where There's a Will, There's a Way (2001), from the Women of Excellence Choir; and God Gave Me Another Chance on the Greater St. Stephens Mass Choir's As for Me My House CD (1999). All were under the leadership of Bishop Morton of Greater St. Stephens Full Gospel Baptist Church.
Some trials and tribulations faced Britton in the waning days of the 20th century. He has since returned to a place of leadership in the church and community, with his faith and commitment strengthened by personal adversity, his gospel message deepened by personal experience. ~ Rose of Sharon Witmer, Rovi
