Biography
Singer and songwriter Javier Torres is the founder of the now legendary Los Rehenes, who formed in the early 1980s in Fresnillo, Zacatecas -- the same village that produced Los Temerarios. Torres originally fronted the band with his brother Roberto, but gradually emerged as its focal point. In the early '90s, the band became known as Los Rehenes y Javier Torres. Torres began recording solo in addition to his work with the group. His first release was 1994's Con Banda for Fonovisa, where he has remained ever since. Torres has become one of his country's most diverse songwriters, equally comfortable in the banda, ranchera, mariachi, and plena genres. His recordings have charted steadily and he has performed all over Latin and South America. ~ Thom Jurek, Rovi
