Charlie Sloth
from Camden, London, England
Biography
A BBC radio DJ who hosts a handful of hip-hop shows, including the freestyle favorite Fire in the Booth, Charlie Sloth is also an MC with a handful of solo releases. Born and raised in Camden, London, he launched his career as a DJ, playing hip-hop on the pirate radio station Raw FM. Mixtapes like The Big Boot (2004) and Secret Society (2006) came next, then in 2007 his video "Guided Tour of Camden" won "Most Original Video" at the Canadian CraveFest awards. That same year his online video show Being Charlie Sloth found him acting in skits, interviewing guests, and reporting on London's underground rap scene. Three years later he would be called up by the BBC, hosting shows on BBC 1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra. In 2014, Virgin released the Sloth-helmed compilation Charlie Sloth: Hood Heat, Vol. 1, with a second volume landing in 2015. The next couple of years saw Sloth continuing to grow in popularity, culminating in the release of his debut album, 2017's The Plug. ~ David Jeffries, Rovi
