The Voidz
Biography
A freewheeling band fusing indie, hard rock, electronic, and pop sounds, the Voidz feature guitarists Amir Yaghmai and Beardo, singer/multi-instrumentalist Julian Casablancas, keyboardist Jeff Kite, bassist/keyboardist Jake Bercovici, and drummer Alex Carapetis. Kite and Carapetis were members of Casablancas' backing band during the tour for his 2009 solo album, Phrazes for the Young. In 2011, Bercovici, Carapetis, and Kite also worked with the Strokes frontman on "I Like the Night," a song he wrote for the French fashion label Azzaro. Casablancas liked the chemistry he had with these musicians, and mutual friends Beardo and Yaghmai soon joined the group. Initially called Julian Casablancas + the Voidz, the band released its debut album, Tyranny, on Casablancas' Cult Records label in 2014. Three years later, they moved to RCA and renamed themselves the Voidz. The group's second album, Virtue, featured production by Shawn Everett and arrived in March 2018. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi
