The brother of singer/composer/violonista Newton Teixeira, Valzinho was hired in 1933 by Rádio Guanabara to play cavaquinho in the group of violonista Pereira Filho, together with Luís Bittencourt (violão), Darci (pandeiro), and Dante Santoro (flute). In 1934, he joined Pixinguinha's group together with master and violonista Valdemar, João da Baiana (pandeiro and vocals), and Joca (pandeiro). From 1936 on, joining the Regional de Luperce Miranda, he worked for Rádio Mayrink Veiga until 1939, when he joined the Dante Santoro Regional, also hired by Rádio Nacional. He continued working in the same group for 30 years, even after the disturbing murder of their leader, who was dearly regarded in choro circles. In the '30s, he had a short stint in Garoto's Bossa Clube, who was regularly featured on the radio. ~ Alvaro Neder, Rovi
