Biography
Little definitive information exists concerning Thomas Preston. It is possible that he led the choristers at Magdalen College as early as 1543 and he may have been the organist and choirmaster at Trinity College between 1548 and 1552. There is also reference to him as the play write of a dramatic work produced in 1560, "Cambises." The music that is ascribed to Preston was characterized as demonstrating complete control of counterpoint in four voices and keyboard virtuosity. The incomplete work "The Mass for Easter Day" may be attributed to Thomas Preston and understood as his most important work. Analysis would be incomplete, however, since the manuscript is incomplete. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
