Biography
Gospel singer, reality television star, and best-selling author Trecina Tina Atkins-Campbell was known simply as Tina Atkins when she and her sister launched one of the most commercially successful contemporary gospel acts of the 2000s, Mary Mary. After forming the group in 1998 with Erica Atkins-Campbell -- the Atkins sisters married unrelated men who both had the last name Campbell -- Mary Mary went on to earn two gold album awards and climb to the top of Billboard's Gospel Albums chart. The duo also released a series of books, including 2003's Transparent, then in 2012 they premiered their reality television series, simply titled Mary Mary. In 2015, Tina followed in her sister's footsteps and launched a solo career, both as an author with the memoir I Need a Day to Pray and as a singer with the album It's Personal. Led by the single "Too Hard Not To," Campbell returned in 2017 with her follow-up album, It's Still Personal. ~ David Jeffries, Rovi
