Charles Watson
from Sheffield, England
Biography
Charles Watson is an English singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist most prominently known for forming the indie pop outfit Slow Club with Rebecca Taylor. After a handful of smaller releases, the band found more widespread success with their 2011 LP, Paradise. Watson later went on to form the garage band the Surfing Magazines.
Watson started Slow Club in Sheffield in 2006 with the intent of combining elements of folk and '60s pop with indie rock and twee pop. The duo put out two 7" singles via Moshi Moshi Records in 2007 before following up with their debut EP, Let's Fall Back in Love in 2008, and first full-length Yeah, So? in 2009. Watson and Slow Club returned with their sophomore effort, Paradise, in 2011 and followed with three more releases. In 2017, he joined the Surfing Magazines, a garage rock band that also featured members of the Wave Pictures. The group released their eponymous album in September of that year. 2018 saw Watson put out his first full-length solo album -- Now That I'm a River -- via Moshi Moshi. ~ Rob Wacey, Rovi
