Biography
The solo project of German artist Alexandra Grübler, Baal Mortimer's music is filled with detached rhythms, fragmented voices, and grainy textures. Grübler states that her work sonically explores questions of resistance, autonomy, language, and identity. Somewhere between ambient pop and abstract sound collage, she issued her debut album, Deixis, in 2020, and her 2022 release Con-Struct was based on material from the vast archive of the late Conrad Schnitzler.

Grübler began making music as Baal Mortimer in 2014, when she was living in Düsseldorf. She later relocated to Berlin, where she became a resident at Amplify Berlin in 2019, under the mentorship of Laurel Halo. Her first album, Deixis, was released by Bureau B in 2020. Mini-album The Torso Tapes, which was co-mixed and mastered by Rupert Clervaux, appeared on Italic in 2021. Grübler then contributed to the Con-Struct series, in which electronic musicians compose works using sounds from the archive of experimental electronic pioneer Conrad Schnitzler. Baal Mortimer's Con-Struct appeared on Bureau B in 2022. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
