Biography
The only act in Norwegian chart history to knock themselves off the number one spot, five-piece electro-pop outfit Donkeyboy are, undoubtedly, one of the most successful Scandinavian pop acts of the late noughties. Formed in Drammen, Norway in 2005, the band consist of brothers Cato (vocals, guitar) and Kent (synth) Sundberg, guitarist Peter Michelsen, bassist Alexander Garborg Agedal, and drummer Thomas Drablos. Influenced by Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, and the Pet Shop Boys, they signed to Warner Music in 2008 after being spotted on MySpace by a record company executive. A year later, their first single, Ambitions, which was later covered by X-Factor winner Joe McElderry, stayed at number one for an unprecedented 12 weeks. It was then replaced by their second single, Sometimes, both taken from their debut album, Caught in a Life. The band was nominated for Best Norwegian Act at the MTV European Music Awards, received four nods at the Norwegian Grammys, Spellemannprisen, and supported a-ha on their Foot of the Mountain tour. Bolstered by the radio hits "City Boy" and "Pull of the Eye, the band's sophomore studio outing, 2012's Silver Moon, peaked at the number two slot on the Norwegian albums chart. ~ Jon O'Brien, Rovi
