Biography
With a penchant for biting sarcasm and witty rhymes, Laws developed within the ranks of South Florida's small but thriving underground rap scene before finally surfacing in the latter half of the 2000s. Born on February 15, 1984, in Natal, Brazil, Laws was given up for adoption at birth and brought to the U.S. while still an infant, eventually settling in Long Island, NY. As he progressed into his teen years, he began to hone his dexterous flow and battle-rap mentality through freestyle ciphers and competitions in New York as well as in Florida, where he relocated in 1998. In fact, his first important contact, Tampa, FL, rhymesayer Majik Most, was a judge at one of those competitions around 2002. The two did record some material together, but Laws found a separate audience for his warped sense of humor, gaining some local airplay on college radio. He self-pressed his first full-length album, Funny Pages, in 2006; however, with Majik Most's connections, he signed with the Orlando-based Domination Recordings and received proper distribution for his debut the following year. Recognizing Laws' talents, indie hip-hop label Rawkus featured him in their "Rawkus 50" promotional campaign that same year, projecting him to be one of hip-hop's next Top 50 artists. ~ Cyril Cordor, Rovi
