Gunnar Haslam
Biography
Ranging from rough-hewn house and lo-fi electro to more spacious ambient techno, New York-based Gunnar Haslam quickly built up a reputation as an adventurous DJ and producer since debuting on the scene in 2013. He began producing and DJ'ing as an undergraduate student at New York University, where he studied particle physics. After meeting Ron Morelli at East Village record shop A1 Records, Haslam became a part of the L.I.E.S. family, with his debut album Mimesiak appearing on the label in 2013. L.I.E.S. released the Porte Maillot EP and the more ambient Mirrors and Copulation LP in 2014, and Haslam released music other records on labels like Argot, Delsin, and Mister Saturday Night. He became a regular at Bossa Nova Civic Club and the Bunker, and soon began playing gigs across the world. He formed acid techno duo Romans with Johannes Auvinen (Tin Man); following the 2014 release of their debut 12" by Global A Records, the Bunker New York released 2015's Ambulare Aude EP, followed by full-length Valere Aude in 2016. Haslam's third solo LP, Lebesgue Measures, appeared on L.I.E.S. that year. Along with Justin Cudmore and Mike Servito, two other well-regarded DJs affiliated with the Bunker, Haslam formed the Hot Mix DJ collective. His fourth full-length, Kalaatsakia, was released by the Bunker New York in 2017. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
