Biography
Studied piano with Eduard Steuermann. Composition with Chou Wen-chung, Lionel Nowak, Paul Boepple, Henry Brant, Carl Ruggles, Kenneth Gaburo, Lejaren Hiller, Edgard Varése. Associate Member of the Technical Staff at Bell Telephone Labs from 1961-64. Developed computer systems at Yale and Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. Co-founder Tone Roads Chamber Ensemble (1963-70), and performer with many ensembles including those of Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Harry Partch, John Cage, Fluxus. Lecturer at New School for Social Research. Also teacher at University of South Florida, University of California at Santa Barbara, Stanford University etc. Respected theorist he has written META + HODOS (1961), John Cage and the Theory of Harmony (1984), A History of Consonance and Dissonance (1988). ~ "Blue" Gene Tyranny, Rovi
