Peter Clarke
Biography
With the sheer number of musicians named Peter Clarke--give and take the "e" at the end of the surname and/or the "r" at the end of Peter--nationality becomes an important identifying factor. This Clarke is Canadian, although not to be confused with the mighty Calgarian rocker of the early '70s with the same name who supposedly was able to shake a house off of its foundations with his power chords. Among other projects, the measureably milder bassist Clarke was associated with Straight Lines, a group that would have been known as Dogstar had powerful forces at CBS records not wagged fingers otherwise.
Letting Go was top 10 for the band in Canada in the early '80s, but despite that and a Juno Award nomination in the composers of the year catagory the label decided to use the aforementioned songtitle as a suggestion and terminated the Straight Lines contract. The bandleaders would later team up with Frank Ludwig, a former associate of Randy Bachman, and start a new band called Body Electric. Clarke has subsequently recorded a project with the interesting multi-instrumentalist Peter Ganz. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, Rovi
