A German progressive rock/metal outfit founded by Vanden Plas frontman Andy Kuntz, Abydos dials back on some of the raw metal aspects of Vanden Plas in favor of a more theatrical and atmospheric approach to the genre. Taking their name from the necropolis and theater-rich ancient Egyptian city of the same name, the band also includes the talents of drummer Andreas Lill (Vanden Plas), guitarist/keyboardist Michael Krauss, and guitarist/bassist/keyboardist Stefan Glass.
