Sophia Black
Biography
A trilingual singer and songwriter who mixes pop and R&B, Sophia Black was born and raised in Los Angeles. She learned French from the city's school system, Japanese from her mother, and music from her mother and her father, who were both professional musicians with eclectic tastes. She began writing songs as a preteen. Sophia gravitated toward R&B groups like TLC and Destiny's Child, an influence that could be heard in her 2013 track "Everything Breaks," which she recorded for the Smurfs 2 soundtrack. She returned in 2014 with the single "Vibration." It appeared along with subsequent singles "OVR AGN" and "Anchor" on her atmospheric debut EP, Sophia Black, issued by Kemosabe Records/RCA in August 2015. A month later, a song she co-wrote for Katharine McPhee was included on the singer's LP Hysteria. Black was the featured vocalist on "Minute" by dance producer No Way Back in early 2017, and early the following year she teamed up with rapper Kyle for the playful "Real Shit." ~ David Jeffries & Marcy Donelson, Rovi
