Born Lee Hojoon in Daegu, South Korea, he would later change his name to Lee Jooheon. Inspired by Michael Jackson, he began to pursue music in his late teens. His first major role was as a member of the Starship Entertainment quartet Nu Boyz. Before that group could even get started, Starship kicked off a competition, No Mercy, which formed a new outfit in late 2014. That band, Monsta X, matched JooHeon with six others. They issued their debut effort, Trespass, in May 2015 and went on to release a handful of U.S. World Albums chart Top Three hit EPs and a 2017 chart-topping full-length, The Clan Pt. 2.5: The Final Chapter.
On the side, JooHeon also issued his own solo material, starting with 2015's debut mixtape, Jung Ji. Collaborations with the likes of Mad Clown and Hyolyn followed. In 2018, in addition to the release of Monsta X's sophomore Take.1 Are You There? and Japanese debut Piece, JooHeon released his official EP debut, DWTD.
