Biography
Hinder drummer Cody Hanson was born in Plano, TX, but relocated with his family to Jones, OK (a part of metropolitan Oklahoma City) when he was a year old. Hanson received his first drum kit as a Christmas present at 12, immediately falling in love with the instrument and teaching himself how to play. He started a band in middle school, but by high school had slowly started to lose interest in the drums and instead picked up the guitar. (Prior to forming Hinder, he hadn't picked up a set of drumsticks in about two years.) Hanson randomly met lead singer Austin Winkler at a college party in 2001, while he was a student at the University of Central Oklahoma studying business and marketing. A subsequent jam session with Winkler and guitarist Joe Blower Garvey changed all of Hanson's future plans, and he eventually quit school to go at Hinder full-time. After becoming an official quintet in 2004, Hinder inked a deal with Universal Records and released their debut full-length, Extreme Behavior, in the fall of 2005. ~ Corey Apar, Rovi
