Wig
from Ann Arbor, MI
Biography
Beginning their career in 1989, Wig was one of the most popular bands in lower Michigan in the early '90s. Featuring singer Preston Long, bassist Fran Falls, guitarist Schurgin, and drummer John Burke, the Ann Arbor band recorded the independently released Lying Next to You in 1990. The album was a surprise success, even gaining praise from BBC DJ John Peel. Long left the group to form Mule, so the band replaced him with author Clark S. Nova and recorded the demos that would get them an Island record contract. It was 1994 when their first major label album was released, but Deliverance was a minor success, helped along by their constant touring schedule. They relocated to Los Angeles before their next record, releasing Wireland at the end of 1997. Despite getting even better reviews on this album, its lack of commercial success allowed Island to drop the band, leading to their eventual breakup in the late '90s. ~ Bradley Torreano, Rovi
