Biography
Hear in Now's music dances on the tightrope between composition and improvisation with free jazz and contemporary classical, folk music, and avant-garde as musical touchstones. This international collaborative trio is comprised of American violinist vocalist Mazz Swift, cellist Tomeka Reid and Italian double bassist Silvia Bolognesi. They perform and record primarily original jazz-tinged avant-classical compositions. Originally brought together in Italy in December of 2009 for the WomaJazz festival, they have been working together ever since.

Each member of Hear in Now is a singular bandleader as well as sidewoman. Their combined résumé is impressive and diverse – including collaborations, performances, and recordings with Anthony Braxton, Nicole Mitchell, Butch Morris, William Parker, Common, Jay-Z, and Kanye West. Their self-titled debut album was issued in 2012. In January 2017, they made up half of the Roscoe Mitchell Sextet for his To John Coltrane concerts in Europe, and played the Impro Strings Workshop in February on their own. Their sophomore studio effort, Not Living in Fear, was issued by International Anthem in June to universal critical acclaim. The album was engineered by Griffin Rodriguez (Icy Demons, Beirut, Modest Mouse) and Alex Inglizian, and featured guest vocals by Dee Alexander. ~ Thom Jurek, Rovi
