Biography
The Quartetto di Cremona is among Italy's leading chamber ensembles. The quartet has a large repertory that includes linchpins of the quartet tradition, such as the Beethoven quartets and Italian works, contemporary and otherwise.

The Quartetto di Cremona was formed in its namesake city in 2000, at the Accademia Stauffer, where its members were students of, among others, violinist Salvatore Accardo. Since 2002, the quartet has comprised its current membership of violinists Cristiano Gualco and Paolo Andreoli, violist Simone Gramaglia, and cellist Giovanni Scaglione. The quartet studied with violist Piero Farulli of the Quartetto Italiano at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole and with violist Hatto Beyerle of the Alban Berg Quartet. The Quartetto di Cremona won the prestigious BBT Fellowship from the Borletti Buitoni Trust in 2005, and that led to an international career that has involved appearances at major international venues, including the Konzerthaus in Berlin, Wigmore Hall in London, and the Beethovenhaus in Bonn, Germany. The quartet has appeared at top chamber music events such as the Beethovenfest in Bonn, the Bozar Festival in Brussels, Belgium, and the Kammermusik Gemeinde in Hannover, Germany. It has been heard often on European airwaves and has completed a residency at the SocietĂ  del Quartetto in Milan, where the group performed a complete cycle of Beethoven's quartets. The Quartetto di Cremona began teaching at their alma mater, the Accademia Stauffer, in 2011 and has given master classes in Europe, Asia, and North and South America. The group's repertory stretches from the early quartets of Haydn to contemporary Italian works by such composers as Fabio Vacchi, Lorenzo Ferrero, and Silvia Colasanti.

In 2013, the Quartetto di Cremona began recording a cycle of Beethoven's quartets for the Audite label, where it has also issued music of Schubert. The group has recorded contemporary Italian music for the Klanglogo label. In 2020, it moved to Avie for the album Italian Postcards, featuring Italy-related music of Wolf, Tchaikovsky, and Nimrod Borenstein. ~ James Manheim, Rovi
