Growing up in Milton Keynes, Isaac Sakima identified as gay from a young age and later sought to incorporate queer themes into his art. Early singles like "Let the Right One In" and "Energy" revealed a knack for moody synth pop with inviting melodies, though it was a pair of 2017 EPs, Facsimile and Ricky, that brought both critical acclaim and more widespread exposure. The use of Polari -- a type of slang that originated in 19th century theater, circus, and gay subcultures -- in his often-explicit lyrics added an exotic undertone to the lush, sensual electronic pop of tracks like "Happy Hr," "Ur Body," and the hit "Daddy."
