Maria Feltham
Biography
With her boyfriend of the time, producer Mark Wirtz, Maria Feltham wrote the music to the sole, self-titled album by Philwit Pegasus in 1970. Although vaguely a concept album about, as Wirtz once described it, "struggle, fear and fantasized happiness," it consisted of mediocre pop songs that drew from both easy listening and rock. The arrangements were lush and varied, at times influenced by folk-rock harmonies, at others by histrionic Tom Jones-styled crooning, theatrical musicals, and the Beach Boys. Feltham had only written a little poetry before work on the album commenced, but apparently her contribution to the record was as a lyricist, though she is given sole songwriting credit for one of the tracks, Happiness. Feltham also co-wrote both sides of Philwit Pegasus's non-LP single, Elephant Song/Pseudo Phoney Mixed Up Croney. ~ Richie Unterberger, Rovi
