Biography
Sexteto La Constellacion De Colombia was a short-lived ad hoc group of university students in Bogota who came together in 1998 first as Ensamble Polifonicos Vallenato. Some of its members included Eblis Alvarez (Meridian Brothers), Mario Galleano (Ondatropica), and Maria Angelica Valencia (Asdrubal). While the first group had been founded to build on the classic Colombian vallenato form of the 1940s and 50s--with the addtional inspirations of punk rock and psyechdelia--Sexteto La Constellacion De Colombia was more inspired by the folk sounds and instruments of their nation's coastal folk traditions. Their only recordings were compiled and released with those of Ensamble Polifonicos Vallenato's on Staubgold's volume Fiesta, Que Viva La in 2014. ~ Thom Jurek, Rovi
