Wolfert Brederode
January 1, 1974 (age 50)
Biography
Dutch pianist Wolfert Brederode crafts elegant, melodic pieces, often in collaboration with other artists on ECM Records.
Born in 1974, he studied classical and jazz piano at The Royal Conservatory of The Hague. He took up composing in 1996, releasing his debut album, Alternate Views, the following year. He further cemented his talents through a close collaboration with singer Susanne Abbuehl, working on all her ECM discs and some of the music for her debut album, 2001's April, and its follow-up, 2006's Compass. This led to his own debut album for ECM, 2007's Currents, which was recorded as a quartet, as was the follow-up, 2011's Post Scriptum. In the years that followed he formed the Wolfert Brederode Trio and released the albums Black Ice in 2019 and Ruins and Remain in 2022. ~ Liam Martin, Rovi
