Biography
Weaving hazy guitar pop, Tashaki Miyaki is an indie band formed by vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Paige Stark and guitarist Luke Paquin (Hot Hot Heat), who met in Los Angeles in 2004, several years before officially starting the group. Both part of a social circle of area musicians that includes producer/musicians Jon Brion and Joel Jerome, they played separately on other projects (with Stark often using pseudonyms) before putting together their self-titled Tashaki Miyaki debut EP, issued by U.K. label the Sounds of Sweet Nothing in 2011. Burger Records gave the EP a U.S. cassette release two years later. A covers album called Under Cover arrived in 2012 that included songs by artists spanning Sam Cooke, INXS, and Father John Misty. Under Cover, Vol. 2 followed as a free download in 2015. Joined in the studio by Dora Hiller on bass, the band's proper full-length debut, The Dream, was produced by Stark and released via Metropolis Records in April 2017. ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi
