Biography
This vocalist formed the popular group the Elgins with former high-school pal Oscar McDonald; starting out in the late '50s, the group enjoyed several hits, including the patriotic Uncle Sam's Man, the additional Extra Extra, and the queasy My Illness. Jimmy Smith and various other Elgins also recorded under other band names: for Lonely Hearts Club the combo moniker was the Elements, while the romantically wandering Lost My Love in the Big City was credited to the Daniels. The Elgins, including Smith and several other original members, remain active on the oldies circuit. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, Rovi
