Biography
Part of the original lineup of the superstar pop-R&B group Destiny's Child, LeToya Luckett didn't just sit around after she and Latavia Roberson left the group shortly after the release of 1999's The Writing's on the Wall. (Neither singer was seen in the "Say My Name" video, which came as a surprise to both of them.) She started another group with Roberson, Anjel, which dissolved before a record ever came out, opened an upscale boutique in her hometown of Houston, Texas, and lived briefly in Los Angeles, where she signed to Capitol in 2003. Her first promotional single, "U Got What I Need," was released in 2004, followed the next year by "All Eyes on Me" and a contribution to the Coach Carter soundtrack. In 2006, "Torn" hit radios and eventually reached number two on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. In July, her self-titled debut, which contained all the singles she'd previously released, finally came out and eventually went platinum. Her second album, Lady Love, followed in August 2009, topped Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, and featured the hits "Not Anymore" and the Ludacris collaboration "Regret." During the next several years, Luckett took numerous acting gigs, including the leading role in Preacher's Kid, and made regular appearances on television series such as Treme, Single Ladies, Ballers, and Here We Go Again, the last of which featured her as a co-star. In 2017, Luckett released her third solo album, Back 2 Life, through eOne. ~ Marisa Brown, Rovi
