David Mancuso
from Utica, NY
October 20, 1944 - November 14, 2016 (age 72)
Biography
The origins of disco (and clubland in general) lie in the early '70s and David Mancuso's Greenwich Village apartment, where he sponsored weekly after-hours get-togethers for much of the city's party population. The Loft's sound system was just as good as most legal clubs, and Mancuso played a wide range of music, including Latin and African, Motown, Philly soul, and funk. ~ John Bush, Rovi
