Biography
New York's Alex Mali is a creative singer/songwriter known for her atmospheric, arty brand of alternative R&B. It was a sound that came together on her 2016 viral hit "Phenom."

A Brooklyn native, Mali grew up in a Caribbean-American household with a Jamaican mother and Trinidadian father. After high school, she spent several years studying jazz at college. It was during this period that she began recording on her laptop in her dorm room. In 2014, she issued the woozy doo-wop electronica track "Is It Love," produced by Afrokeys. Inspired by the process, Mali eventually left school to focus on her music. More tracks followed, and in 2016 her single "Phenom," with production by Monte Booker, went viral and even earned spins on BBC1 Radio. A second single, the Nine-Ease-produced "Hoity Toity" followed a year later and featured MeLo-X.

In 2019, Mali issued her debut EP, Sweet Sour, which included the PLVYHAUS-produced "Benjamin," as well as the Thutmose collaboration "Faded." ~ Matt Collar, Rovi
