Chris Tsangarides
Biography
Chris Tsangarides' name should be familiar to anyone who's looked at the credits on the back of an album by any early '80s British metal band. An avid metal fan, Tsangarides presided over the recording of albums by everyone from Helloween and Ozzy Osbourne to the Tygers of Pan Tang and the poppier Tigertailz. Fortunately, he has avoided being stuck to one genre and has been able to work with a diverse range of acts, such as Billy Ocean and Depeche Mode. Tsangarides got his start when a friend prompted him to try engineering and he found himself at London's Morgan Studios in 1975. A year later he was assisting on Judas Priest's Sad Wings of Destiny, and when Britain's new wave of heavy metal exploded Tsangarides' fate was sealed. Though his mainstay was heavy metal acts like Anvil, the producer made a concerted effort to branch out and he began working with underground and alternative acts, like Stiv Bators and Concrete Blonde, who asked him to produce their Free album, as well as Bloodletting and Walking in London. In 1990, Tsangarides' reunited with the band that got him on his way to produce Judas Priest's Painkiller and he has kept himself busy throughout the '90s. ~ Steve Kurutz, Rovi
