Biography
The Argentinean duo Modular's dreamy, spacy tunes, modeled after synthesizer-centric easy listening acts of the '60s and '70s, welcome comparisons to the Free Design, Stereolab, and the High Llamas. Naming themselves after the Moog Modulator synthesizer, Mariana Badaracco and Pablo Dahy started collaborating on what would become Modular's first recordings in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2000. The duo spent the next eight years self-releasing a few demo discs (2003's Fecunidad del Cosmos, 2004's Viaje por el Planeta del Pasto, 2005's El Triangulo de las Bermudas, and 2008's Micro Film). They've also appeared on a handful of compilation discs, contributing songs to Flasheando, Mezcladitos de Kidart, and When You Come, Bring the Sun. Modular were signed to Madrid, Spain's Elefant Records in 2008, and their debut full-length on that label, Fantasias de un Robot Psicodelico, was released the following summer. They followed it up in 2011 with Sinfonías Para Terrícolas, and returned after a long break with the disco-influenced Fuga al Paraiso in 2016. ~ Tim Sendra, Rovi
