Biography
Cellist David Finckel has earned a reputation as one of the most accomplished and talented classical interpreters of his generation, both in solo performance and as a founding member of the Emerson String Quartet. Finckel was born into a music-oriented family, and took up cello under the tutelage of his father. At 15, Finckel made his debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra, and by 17 he was taken as the only American student of famed cellist Mstislav Rostropovich. In 1976 he became a founding member of the Emerson String Quartet, one of the most highly regarded modern chamber quartets. Finckel has also been lauded for his performances with his wife, pianist Wu Han. ~ Wade Kergan, Rovi
