Dino Sabatini
Biography
Born in Italy but based in Berlin, Dino Sabatini creates pulsating, hypnotic techno that seems too busy and alive to be tagged "minimal." His heavily atmospheric tracks are inspired by mythology and ancient wisdom, and they bring a sort of ritualistic feel to 21st century club sounds. Sabatini first became known as one half of Modern Heads, his duo with Gianluca Meloni. The duo first appeared in early 2006 with the "Pathology" 12" on Elettronica Romana, which included a remix by Donato Dozzy. The record received attention from several DJs, and further Modern Heads releases appeared on labels such as Dozzy Records, Meadowlark, and Mental Groove. Sabatini made his solo debut in 2008 with the EP No More, issued by Prologue. Further Sabatini EPs appeared on the label, as well as others like Sonic Groove and his own label Outis Music, and his solo career took off. His mystical debut full-length, Shaman's Path, appeared on Prologue in 2012. Following collaborative EPs with Giorgio Gigli, Dozzy, and Edit Select, his sophomore album, Omonimo, was released by Outis in 2016. Featuring collaborations with jazz pianist Antonello Salis, the album was far less club-focused than his previous work, recalling '90s ambient techno released by labels like Instinct Records and Fax. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
