Biography
Jerry Peloquin was the first drummer for Jefferson Airplane, although even some fans who are very familiar with that band's history are unaware of that, especially since he didn't record with them. In early 1965, Peloquin's girlfriend of the time, Jacky Watts (later to work for the Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship), was friends with a woman dating Marty Balin. Balin, the Airplane's founder, asked Peloquin to join. Peloquin was with the band for a few months, but left in late 1965, before they recorded for RCA Records, although while he was in the lineup he introduced the group to their first manager. He has said that he was asked to re-join the band in 1966, but turned the chance down. Over the next few years he played with Paul Winter Consort, the New York Electric String Ensemble, Jose Feliciano, Tim Buckley, and Chad Mitchell. In the early '70s he left the music business, working as a psychologist and management consultant. ~ Richie Unterberger, Rovi
