Born and raised in Japan, Brown's pursuit of a music career brought him to the U.S. in 2011, where he studied singing and songwriting at Boston's famed Berklee College of Music. A multi-instrumentalist with a penchant for atmospheric production, he soon began releasing music under the name raybaboon and found a streaming audience for his self-titled 2014 debut, particularly with the song "Picture Frames." His next release, the 2016 EP Lungs, was credited simply to Rei Brown and expanded his unique mixture with lo-fi live instrumentation, lounge vibes, and electronic pop textures. Based by this time in New York, Brown continued to evolve over the next few years, building a strong streaming presence with tracks like 2017's "Street Fighter" and the 2018 EP series Lovers I and II. His first release of 2020 was the single "Bubble." Two years later, he issued "Could I Be Somebody" and "Thinking About You," the latter of which was a collaboration with Joji. ~ Timothy Monger, Rovi
