Richard Loqueville
January 1, 1390 - January 1, 1418 (age 27)
Biography
Loqueville was a teacher to the son of the Duke of Bar. He played the harp for the Duke and taught the instrument to the son. From 1413 until his death he was employed at Cambrai Cathedral teaching music and composing. Genres of his music included rondeaux and movements for the Mass, specifically, the Mass pairs of Gloria and Credo as well as separate Glorias, Credos and Sanctus. In Loqueville's rondeaux, the text was carried only in the upper voice. His rhythms were consistently in 3/4 and 6/8 time signatures. Though he varied the mass movements greatly, characteristically Loqueville would employ duets in the Gloria-Credo pairings and would score the duets over a tenor support. The motets which he composed were composed with balanced rhythms. Two motets are referred to: a Marian antiphon and a motet composed for Yvo, the saint of Breton. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
