Biography
Bob Paisley was a bluegrass bandleader born in Ashe County, North Carolina, but raised in southeast Pennsylvania. His parents both played old-time music for fun, and young Paisley soon joined them, learning the harmonica and guitar. Following military service, Paisley settled down near Landenberg to work as a chemist and raise his family. Several years passed before he again took up music and joined a weekend country band from Wilmington, Delaware. Around 1964, Paisley and banjo picker Ted Lundy, who had played with Alex Campbell and Ole Belle's New River Boys, teamed up and formed the Southern Mountain Boys. They recorded four albums between 1973 and 1978. Paisley played with the Mountain Boys through 1979, when serious hip problems forced him to drop out. Later he reformed the group as the Southern Grass, which became quite popular on the festival circuit, performing with a band comprised mostly of Paisley's sons and Ted Lundy's sons. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi
