Futurebound
from Liverpool, England
January 1, 1994 (age 30)
Biography
Futurebound, aka Brendan Collins, was born and bred in Liverpool and got his first taste of dance music after attending illegal raves at the end of the '80s when the U.K. acid house scene was in full effect. Enamored by the scene, he took up DJing, and secured his first residency in Liverpool in 1991. Influenced by the burgeoning breakbeat scene that was being championed by the likes of LTJ Bukem, Grooverider, and Ray Keith, Collins started to book these DJs for his own nights in Liverpool. Teaming up with fellow Liverpudlian Paul Maker in 1994, Collins, Alan Ryan, and John Collinson formed the drum'n'bass outfit Futurebound. After a slew of releases on Skanna, Timeless, and Infrared in the '90s, the four-piece ended up going their separate ways, with Collins keeping the Futurebound moniker for his DJ and production work. In 2003, Collins set up his own label Viper Recordings with fellow producer Jaquana, and in 2005 came the first Matrix Futurebound release Strength 2 Strength. This first production by the duo would go on to cement the foundation for their future, with the pair going on to dominate the drum'n'bass scene worldwide. ~ Rich Wilson, Rovi
