Biography
A native of Brisbane, Australia, singer/songwriter Shane Nicholson first gained public attention as the lead singer/guitarist for the rock band Pretty Violet Stain. Interested in music from a young age, Nicholson formed the band while in high school and eventually they released their debut album Parachutes and Gravity on Warner in 2000. Ultimately, Nicholson parted ways with the band and released his debut solo album It's a Movie on Virt in 2003. The album also featured a duet with Australian country star Kasey Chambers, whom Nicholson eventually married. His sophomore effort, Faith and Science, followed in 2006. Two years later, Nicholson paired with Chambers for the album Rattlin' Bones. Also in 2008, he released his third solo album, Familiar Ghosts. The concert album Live at the Sydney Opera House appeared a year later. In 2011, Nicholson returned with the studio album Bad Machines which ultimately earned him an ARIA Country Album of the Year nomination and 6 CMAA Country Music Awards of Australia Nominations. In 2012, Nicholson and Chambers released their second album as a duo with Wreck Ruin featuring the single, "Adam & Eve." 2014 saw Nicholson ink a deal with Lost Highway Australia/Universal Music and release his first concert LP, Pitch, Roll Yaw: Live and Solo. In June of the following year, he dropped the single "Hell Breaks Loose" in anticipation of the release of his ninth studio album, also titled Hell Breaks Loose, which dealt with the emotional fallout from his 2014 divorce from Chambers. The record brought home an ARIA award for Best Country Album, as well as the CMAA Alternative Country Album of the Year award. Nicholson's tenth studio long-player, Love and Blood, arrived in August 2017. ~ Matt Collar, Rovi
