Biography
A 20- to 25-piece choral group out of the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, the Silver Lake Chorus specialize in indie rock songs, arranged in the spirit of alternative and independent music with guitars, synths, percussion, strings, and more among varied instrumental accompaniment. Led by choral director Mikey Wells, they sang the theme song for the 2010 parody film MacGruber, and appeared on the 2011 single and Saturday Night Live digital short "I Just Had Sex" by the Lonely Island featuring Akon, which hit number 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 in addition to charting in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and several European countries. An impressive list of artists contributed original songs to their eponymous debut, including Sia, Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd of the Flaming Lips, Ben Gibbard, Ben Lee, Aimee Mann, A.C. Newman, John Roderick, Tegan and Sara, Justin Vernon, and the Bird and the Bee. Produced by song contributor Ben Lee, it was released by Six Degrees Records in June 2015. ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi
