Born to Jamaican and Indian parents, Mowgs grew up in a strict Muslim household where music was not allowed, but the youngster would sneak listens to 50 Cent and music television when he could. With a difficult home setting, he found himself running with other kids in Birmingham's estates but turned to music after some of his peers started producing drill. In 2017 he dropped his first track "Truth Be Told" which racked up numerous streams in just a week of release. Mowgs went on to release more material before dropping his debut mixtape, 2019's Roll the Dice. Eschewing the more popular strain of U.K. drill, Mowgs opted for a take on classic British road rap, setting him apart from contemporaries. More tracks followed including "Swerve Off" with fellow Brum resident Mist, as well as "Lean wit It" and "Delegate" before Mowgs dropped his second tape, 2022's The Bare Necessities. Featuring collabs with Rimzee, SK, and Haze Da Martian, the album hit the U.K. album charts. ~ Rich Wilson, Rovi
