Born and raised in Gongju, South Chungcheong, South Korea, Kim Jae-joong (aka J-Jun) had dreamt of becoming a singer throughout his childhood and at the age of 15 moved to Seoul to fulfil his dream. Auditioning for SM Entertainment, J-Jun was signed and in 2003 became a member of the boy band TVXQ. The group built a successful fan base over the years and issued numerous albums, including 2005's Rising Sun and 2008's Mirotic, before J-Jun, Micky Yoochun, and Xiah Junsu parted ways to form their own outfit, JYJ, in 2010. Off the back of their success with TVXQ, the trio quickly made waves with their English-language debut album, 2010's The Beginning. Two more albums followed, the Korean-language releases In Heaven and Just Us, as well as world tours. In 2013 J-Jun started to issue his own solo work, debuting with the album WWW, which would go on to claim the top spot of the Korean charts. Following a stint of military service and the winding down of JYJ, J-Jun focused on his own solo career, taking on numerous acting roles alongside recording and writing new material. His sophomore album, No.X, appeared in 2016 and once again claimed the number one position on the Korean charts as well as debuting on the U.S. Billboard charts. A string of Japanese-language releases followed -- 2019's Flawless Love and Love Covers, as well as 2020's Love Covers II -- before J-Jun returned with this third Korean-language release, 2022's Born Gene. ~ Rich Wilson, Rovi
