Biography
Pianist/vocalist Jeannie Cheatham and bass trombonist Jimmy Cheatham have been married since the late '50s, and have worked together in a wide variety of situations (in addition to both being educators). However, it was with the formation of their Sweet Baby Blues Band (also known as the Cheathams) that they found a perfect outlet for their music. Ranging from a eight- to ten-piece, this group emphasizes blues and swing. With Jeannie playing piano and taking occasional vocals, and Jimmy often responsible for the frameworks, the band through the years has featured such fine players as Snooky Young, Charles McPherson, Jimmie Noone, Jr., Curtis Peagler, Red Callender, Clora Bryant, and Rickey Woodard; in addition to guests Eddie Lockjaw Davis, Eddie Cleanhead Vinson, Papa John Creach, Clarence Gatemouth Brown, and Frank Wess. The Cheathams have recorded frequently for Concord. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi
