Biography
Per Beach Slang frontman James Alex, the idea for an acoustic take on his angst-ridden indie rock band emerged when he was asked to do a solo Tiny Desk Concert for NPR. After releasing two Beach Slang EPs with guitarist Ruben Gallego, bass player Ed McNulty, and drummer J.P. Flexner, and drawing some comparisons to main influence the Replacements, his solo set for the NPR series was published in April 2015. Beach Slang released their full-length debut The Things We Do to Find People Who Feel Like Us later that year, and followed up with Loud Bash of Teenage Feelings in 2016 before Alex recorded the four-track EP We Were Babies We Were Dirtbags under the moniker Quiet Slang. Released in 2017, it included two reworked Beach Slang songs alongside covers of the Replacements and Big Star, all arranged for piano and cello. Quiet Slang returned in 2018 with a full album of acoustic Beach Slang titled Everything Matters But No One Is Listening. ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi
