Biography
Though Cincinnati is hardly a hotbed of country music, Frazier River proved that the city could support a residency; beginning in 1991, frontman Danny Frazier and his assembled cast of well-known area musicians regularly drew 3,000 people per week for their daily performances at the River Saloon, a large hall located on a riverboat. Frazier was raised in Kerrville, TX, the son of a Pentecostal preacher. He listened to gospel as well as honky tonk legend Merle Haggard while growing up, and moved to Ohio when his father was called to a different church. After working for a Cincinnati record store, Danny Frazier began playing around the city and recruited several friends to form Frazier River. After the band spent three years packing people into the River Saloon, Nashville began to take notice; Frazier River signed to Decca and released a self-titled album in 1995. ~ John Bush, Rovi
